As a child in the upstate of New York, Chef Burrell began to develop a love of food and cooking at young age. She furthered her interest in the restaurant industry by enrolling in The Culinary Institute of America after earning a degree in English and Communication from Canisius College, Buffalo NY. The Culinary Institute of America was a wonderful learning experience for me. It was difficult to master how to do, or even work hard enough. Following graduation, Burrell worked at La Bottega del 30 in Tuscany and La Taverna del Lupo (in Umbria) as she attended an Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners. Through her stay in Italy she learned to appreciate and understand the concept behind Italian cuisine and its culture, which left a lasting impact on her food point of view. Burrell is a famous ambassador for the Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation. She also has been on the Garden of Dreams Foundation Advisory Board which assists kids who have challenges.
